Poe and …Who?
Michael Sheen visited the students at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama today, to give a talk to the students there. According to sources on twitter that were in attendance, he mentioned that he is still developing a project to do with Edgar Allen Poe, despite there being a film about Poe coming out this year starring John Cusack in the role.
John Cusack’s film, The Raven, is a fictionalized account of the last days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life, in which the poet is in pursuit of a serial killer, whose murders mirror those in the writer’s stories. According to an interview Michael had with Fear.net back in July at Comic-Con, he mentioned he was developing a project about Poe and the impression was that it was more biographical.
It seems now, that Dave McKean has been mentioned as a potential director. McKean is also set to direct Michael in a film version of the Passion play being held in Port Talbot this Easter, with a potential release date of Easter 2012.
Michael obviously has a great love for Poe, as if you recall, he dressed as Poe for Halloween last year.
Another bit of gossip gleaned was that Michael is to do a voice over on the Neil Gaiman scripted episode of Dr Who. Gaiman’s episode will form part of the sixth series of Dr Who which will air on the BBC this Spring, and Autumn. This piece of news has made for a very VERY happy Madnad!!
‘Elric’ and ‘Raven’ – new projects on the horizon for Michael Sheen?
Michael Sheen took a few minutes to talk to Fear.net while at Comic-Con this weekend.
It seems that he has been working on a future project with New Moon director, Chris Weitz about the Michael Moorcock character, Elric. Weitz told Elric artist, John Picacio, that he is developing a movie about the famed sword-and-sorcery character.
Elric, an albinistic anti-hero, is a legendary character from the world of graphic novels and fantasy comics and has been around since the early 70s.
Michael also mentioned that he will be playing the macabre gothic fiction writer, Edgar Allen Poe, in a film about the last few months of his life. The project is currently called ‘The Raven’, named after one of his most famous tales ‘The Raven‘.
