Michael Sheen comments on Manic Street Preachers “National Treasures”
Welsh rockers The Manic Street Preachers have announced a brand new biography which sees each of the 38 singles featured on their forthcoming ‘National Treasures – The Complete Singles’ being narrated by a collection of journalists, public figures and personalities, which include Michael Sheen, along with Phill Jupitus, 6Music DJs Stuart Maconie and Steve Lamacq.
From it’s opening line, originally a declaration now a dire warning, it stirs the heart and the mind equally. Coruscating, elegiac, apocalyptic and tender. Music that comes from the spine. Music to move mountains with.
Facebook event added for Passion play
National Theatre Wales have created a Facebook event page for the Passion play being held this Easter in Port Talbot HERE.
They have also updated the NTW Facebook page today to confirm the Manic Street Preachers will be playing in the line up for the ‘The Supper’. Nicky Wire told in a recent interview that Michael Sheen had asked them to write something as mentioned in yesterday’s post.
If you are on Facebook, and attending the play, why not pop along and make sure you click on the YES I am attending.
The link to the Facebook event page has also been added to the project page.
Nicky Wire wants Michael Sheen for his Dr Who fan fic
Manic Street Preachers bassist, Nicky Wire, has apparently been writing a fan fic episode of Dr Who and has said that Michael Sheen would be perfect in it should it ever be realised into film.
Speaking recently on BBC Radio 2, Nicky said the script is about Dylan Thomas’s last few days in New York and explained:
“Doctor Who (sic) has to serve him his last drink to kill him and obviously Doctor Who’s a pacifist so it’s a tough one.
“Also, we’re doing something with Michael Sheen in April, he’s recreating a passion play in Port Talbot and he’s asked us to write something for it. Of course Michael Sheen could play Dylan Thomas perfectly.”
Michael Sheen recently appeared in the video of Manic Street Preachers’ single ‘Its Not War Just The End Of Love’ where he had a passionate encounter with Anna Friel.
I personally, have longed wished for Michael Sheen to play Dylan Thomas and combine this with Dr Who, I would be a very happy girl!
Michael Sheen enjoyed doing Manics video
Michael Sheen says he jumped at the chance to star in the Manic Street Preachers’ new music video.
In the video for (Its Not War) Just The End Of Love, he plays a Russian chess legend Garry Kasparov type character opposite actress Anna Friel.
Michael explained he was friends with the band’s lead singer, saying: “We’re all from the same place in South Wales and I’ve known James Dean Bradfield for a little while.”
Speaking in LA as he promoted the release of children’s movie Tinker Bell And The Great Fairy Rescue onto DVD in the States, Michael confessed he hadn’t expected to be asked to work with the band.
“Why they wanted me to do it I have no idea!” he laughed.
He added: “The reason why I wanted to do it was because I’m a big fan of theirs and it was great to be a part of it.”
If you have not seen this video yet – you must! It is a fabulous song and the video is EPIC!
