| This is a 2 part ‘making of’ documentary from the BBC where we follow the people behind the ‘Passion’ play that was performed in Port Talbot over Easter 2011. Viewers can watch how it all came together as we follow the journey from planning to performance.
Part 1 “The Town Tells Its Story” tells how Michael Sheen inspired his home town to create the most ambitious piece of theatre that Wales has ever seen. The camera follows Sheen and the hundreds of people from all over Port Talbot who took part in a very modern retelling of the story of the crucifixion this Easter. Sheen’s commitment is 1000 per cent and we see how the project becomes increasingly terrifying as he realises that what he has undertaken is so much more than a play. As we watch the show coming together, we also get an intimate portrait of a town. The carpenters who built the cross, the disabled girl who inspired a dance and the old timers from a terraced street cut in half by the M4, are all part of a community that astonishes itself and us with its desire to find a voice through this extraordinary play. Part 2 “It Has Begun” shows the highlights of the three days of drama that includes suicide bombers, mass public protest, ghostly visions, bell ringers, choirs, a junior string band, teenage fire jugglers, and even a guest appearance by the Manic Street Preachers.
