Harry Jones is a womanising successful archeologist turned TV celebrity. His younger brother Ben, is a unhappy family solicitor in Pontypridd. Ben agrees to be Best Man at his brothers wedding, and during his speech, he shows many pictures of Harry with beautiful woman. Ben reminises about a dig his brother was on in Ireland, and where Ben met the love of his life, Sinead. He tells of how he regrets that he left her, and Ireland, to complete his degree and that on the last day, Harry had kindly gone to see Sinead to pursuade her to go see Ben one last time. She had not, and so he was resigned to the fact that the past is well and truly in the past. Ben’s rather controlling girlfriend, Ceri Sian, stands up at this point, and asks him to marry her. Resignedly, he agrees.
After Harry and his new bride, Maria, leave for their honeymoon, Ben is seen looking at an old postcard. Sent by Sinead not long after he left Ireland, in it she says that she is to marry Styx, his love rival, and move to Australia. He stands on a bridge and throws the card into the waters below, saying a final goodbye to Sinead and the memory of their love. In Ireland, Sinead is seen leaving her art studio and walks along the harbour. She stops by a group of youngsters, one of which is her daughter Niamh. She confiscates a joint they were smoking. and continues on to the pub where she meets Styx, who is unloading booze from the back of his hearse, under the concealed observation of the local Garda who suspect him of smuggling. She asks Styx to have a word with Niamh. Sinead continues on her walk and meets Greta, an Icelandic photographer, on the beach. She asks Greta what it is she does with Styx, when they meet on the beach, and she replies that they just talk. Back in Pontypridd, Ben is getting grief from his fiancee over the wedding arangements, and afterwards heads out into the town for some lunch. He is surrounded by posters and adverts baring his brothers face, contantly reminding him of Harry’s successes and his failures. Harry, however, is feeling low. He confides in his new wife that when he went to see Sinead on behalf of Ben long ago, he seduced her. Maria tells him that he has to tell Ben, before their planned move to the States. In Ireland, Styx and Greta and talking on the beach. She insists that Styx is not happy with Sinead, and that Sinead is not happy with him either, and that he should leave her. He says he can’t do that, as she stuck by him when he was in jail. Greta is quite visibly disappointed with the response. Harry tracks down Ben and surprises him by offering to whisk him away on a sort of Stag night. They go by helicopter to Ireland, to the exact town where he and Ben spent the summer 17 years ago, and where Ben had fell in love with Sinead. They soon discover that Sinead did not move to Australia after all, and that she did not marry Styx but that she lives with him at the local pub, which Styx now owns.
Sinead leaves the pub, but bumps into her daughter and friends who have already heard that Harry is in the pub. Sinead forbids her daughter access to the pub, telling her to especially stay away from Harry. Niamh argues so Sinead marches Niamh off to her studio where she locks her daughter inside. As she leaves her studio, she finds Ben outside on his own, and tells him to go home, that no one wants him here. He said that he would have come back if he had known she was not moving to Australia, and Sinead replied that was why she did not tell him. When Sinead meets Harry in the pub, he begs her not to tell Ben about the two of them, as it would be better coming from him. He then goes off to find Ben who is still wandering alone on the beach. He urges Ben to get over Sinead, that he is better off without her. He is then dragged off by the young girls seen earlier with Niamh, as they say they have a party to take him to. On the way, they pick up Niamh. On return to her studio Sinead finds it empty, and goes in search of her daughter. She finds Ben, and he says how he saw Harry go off with a bunch of young girls to a party. She is worried as one of them is her daughter, and she reminds Ben of Harry’s reputation, so Ben offers to help her find them. They head towards a rave at an abandoned mill, but before they go in, Sinead admits that Styx is not Niamh’s father, that either he or Harry is, and this is why she needs to get Niamh away from Harry. They enter the rave, and Sinead drags Niamh off Harry’s lap. Ben hands Harry a phone, on the other of which is Maria, his wife, who is not happy with his antics. Sinead leads Niamh out and when Ben notices Harry starting to dance with another group of girls, he drags him out too. Sinead faces the music, and tells her daughter that Styx is not her father, but she is unsure if it is Harry or Ben. Harry and Ben also have a heart to heart, and Harry confesses to Ben of his indescretion, but Ben stops him saying he already knows. Harry then tells Ben that he is moving his show to America to which Ben says he should go for it and admits it is too late for him and his own dreams. Harry reminds him that it is never too late, and that we are all ‘dead long enough’. Ben has an epiphany, and realises Harry is right. He phones Ceri Sian, and calls off the wedding. While he was on the phone, Harry has headed back into the pub. He comes face to face with an angry Styx who believes Harry has come here for Sinead.
Harry is helped into the police car, and Ben goes to see Sinead. He told her what had happened at the pub, and she cries that if Harry presses charges, Styx will back go to prison . He runs off to get Harry before the police can take him. He finds Harry still sat in the back of the squad car alone, and so jumps behind the wheel and drives off. They pick up Sinead, who thinks she knows where Styx is hiding. Styx quickly realises by Sinead’s reaction to the news that Ben is no longer getting married, that it is Ben that has been in her heart all this time, not Harry. They determine to get Harry over the border, as then his statement can not be used as evidence against Styx. Harry is feeling ill after his beating and sticks his head out of the vehicle window but unfortunately, loses his wig. Sinead and Ben are rather surprised to discover that Harry is going quite bald. The van that Sinead is driving accidently drives into a ditch, and so she stays with the vehicle, while the boys run across country. They come across the border into Northern Ireland, and bump into some British soldiers hiding in the undergrowth. The police were hot on their trail, assuming that it was Styx that had been in the van. Urged by Ben, Harry retracts his statement to the police. Styx then turns up in the van, along with Sinead and Niamh. When Harry asks why they are helping Styx, Ben tells him because he is family. He raised Niamh as his own. Niamh tells Harry that he is her Uncle or dad, which ever way, it’s complicated. Harry is confused, and looks at Ben, who tells him ‘she is ours’. The film ends with Ben and Sinead getting married, as Harry and his wife Maria happily look on, holding a new baby. |

Ben and Harry enter the pub and Harry asks after Sinead at the bar. The barman is later seen talking to Sinead in the back kitchen, saying that the famous Harry Jones is here to see her. She is extremely flustered, and asks if he is alone. When she opens the door to go talk to Harry, Ben falls at her feet as he had been leaning on the door. Startled, she asks what he is doing here and he tells her that he is on his stag night.
By the time Ben arrives at the pub, Harry is running out after being assaulted by Styx and his barman. When the police arrive, the two attackers from the pub make a run for it.
