Sky has launched a new 3D documentary that gives an aerial view of the UK and Ireland, with commentary from a host of stars.

Britain & Ireland from the Sky is scheduled to run for eight episodes, with the next one set to hit the air on Sky 3D at 18:00 BST tomorrow (June 11th 2011).

The production features personal stories and narration from the likes of Michael Sheen, James Nesbitt and Ashley Jensen.

Shots of the British and Irish landscape, including spots in Cornwall, Ben Bulben in Ireland and Portmeirion in Wales, were recorded from heights of between five and 5,000 ft.

John Cassy, channel director of Sky 3D, insisted the “breathtaking” vistas will jump out at the viewer and grab their attention.

“For the first time, 3D viewers can see the landscapes of these beautiful islands from a unique aerial perspective and learn of previously-untold personal stories,” he added.

Last month, another Sky 3D documentary – Sir David Attenborough’s Flying Monsters – picked up the Bafta for best specialist factual programme.

Sadly, I do not have Sky 3D so will not be able to watch this, or record it.

This Sunday, Michael Sheen appears in the BBC One Wales schedule twice!

At 6:30pm, there is a repeat of the episode of Coming Home, where Michael delves into his ancestry, and discovers his family originated from Ireland.

This is followed later, at 10:25pm, with “The Passion of Port Talbot – The Town Tells Its Story“. This documentary follows Michael Sheen and his team as they work to inspire the town, and produce the play that was performed through out the town this Easter.

Part 2 of this documentary, “The Passion Of Port Talbot – It Has Begun”, will be shown the following Sunday (12th) at the same time, and captures the highlights of three days of drama.

If you are in the UK, but not in Wales, you should be able to pick up BBC One Wales on Sky Channel 972, or Virgin Media 864. If you do not have satelite or Cable, then you should be able to catch it on iPlayer after it has aired.

However, if none of those options are suitable, you can always download it from this site . There is already a copy of Coming Home in the Downloads Section, and The Passion Of Port Talbot will be added once it has aired.

The air date for part 1 of the ‘Passion Of Port Talbot’ BBC documentary is now scheduled for Sunday 5th June at 10:25pm on BBC One Wales.

The first part of the documentary was originally listed as being 29th May, but due to schedule changes is now airs on 5th June.

Unfortunately, the schedule does not go far enough ahead yet just yet, but I am summising that the 2nd part will be the following Sunday, 12th June.

If you are not in Wales but in the UK, you can watch BBC One Wales on Sky channel 972 or on Virgin Cable channel 864. You should also be able to catch it on iPlayer after it has aired.

Ruth Jones

Michael Sheen is to appear on a chat show hosted by Ruth Jones to be aired end of April on the BBC.

The welsh actress, famous for her role as Nessa in BBC’s Gavin and Stacey, is to do an Easter Treat which follows on from her successful Christmas Cracker show. The show was filmed tonight in Cardiff, and  her guests included comedians Dawn French and Tim Minchin, as well as Michael Sheen.

The programme will then be broadcast on BBC2 & BBC HD on April 23 at 9pm, and will be repeated on BBC1 Wales.

As reported earlier today, Michael Sheen will be one of the stars taking part in a celebrity version of ‘Newport State Of Mind’ which is a parody of the Jay-Z hit New York State Of Mind. The song was originally parodied by MJ Delaney, Tom Williams and Leo Sloley whose video went viral last summer.

The original director of the Newport spoof,  MJ Delaney, has also directed this celebrity version, which includes over 30 famous faces making an appearance throughout the 3 ½ minute video.

As mentioned previously, this will be aired sometime after midnight during the Comic Relief TV telethon for Red Nose Day 2011 on Friday 18th, on BBC1.

Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day is an extremely worthwhile cause as they strive to create a world without poverty. They work in the UK as well as abroad.

According to the guys at @RudeTube Michael Sheen along with Anneka Rice, and Alex Jones will be performing Newport State of Mind as part of the events for Comic Relief this Friday.

This is a parody of last year’s hit single New York State of Mind, by Jay-Z, and replacing New York with the South Wales town of Newport.

Comic Relief is a UK based charity with a biennial  TV event to raise money for charities in the UK as well as abroad.

The Newport State Of Mind’ piece is set to appear in the schedule sometime after midnight, and should be hilarious. I don’t have any other information than that at the moment. Obviously, I will update you if I do get any more details.
