Michael Sheen to star in Mariah Mundi & the Midas Box
The rumour mill has been working overtime this week concerning Michael’s future projects. Yet another story has emerged about a possible role.
According to The Filmstage, Michael is in talks to play the lead in a film version of Mariah Mundi & the Midas Box, based on the 2007 young adult novel by G P Taylor. The story centres around a 15 year old boy, Mariah Mundi, whose world is torn apart by the disappearance of his parents, then the kidnapping of younger brother by unknown assailants.
Michael is rumoured to play an Indiana Jones-ish adventurer, called Captain Charity, with whom Mariah Mundi sets off in pursuit, arriving at the Prince Regent, a hotel hiding a fantastical underworld. Sam Neill will appear as an arch villain, Lena Hedley as his witch-seductress, and Ioan Gruffud has also been suggested as being connected with the project.
Gavin Scott (Small Soldiers), Rob Sprackling (Gnomeo & Juliet) and John Smith (Gnomeo & Juliet) are writing the screenplay, and produced by Entertainment Motion Pictures. Shooting is set to commence April 30th.
Michael Sheen to make a Hammer Horror?
Horror movie website, Bloody Disgusting, have announced that they have received news that Michael Sheen has been offered the lead in The Quiet Ones, the next project from Hammer Films who are releasing Woman In Black in theatres tomorrow.
Historically, Hammer always had a quick turn-around on films, and it looks like that trend may continue. CEO of Hammer Films, Simon Oakes has told Bleeding Cool that the next film should be out within a year.
The Quiet Ones is rumoured to be written and directed by John Pogue (Quarantine 2/Ghost Ship), and Nicholas Cage had been talked about as possible starring. It is based on a true story that happened in Canada in the 70′s, about a bunch of young scientists on a University campus who get led astray by a sort of Svengali like professor of physics and they go out and create a poltergeist, an ectoplasm from negative energy. As you can imagine, it goes really badly wrong.
There was talk that Nicholas Cage was attached to the film, but now it seems that the Rumour Mill has attached Michael Sheen to this project, and I personally hope this particular rumour is true. I am a long time fan of Hammer, and have read a lot of positive buzz surrounding Woman In Black and Hammer’s revival.
Port Talbot to host Passion film world premiere
It has been rumoured for sometime, but it has now been officially announced by the Port Talbot Magnet, that the film version of Michael Sheen’s The Passion will have its world premiere in Port Talbot this Easter, and that Michael is set to make an appearance along with other cast and crew members.
A spokesperson for the National Theatre of Wales confirmed the ‘The Gospel Of Us’ will be aired in several as yet undisclosed locations throughout the town, and that a “memory” event will also take place the same weekend.
Further announcements from National Theatre of Wales are expected. I will let you know once they come out.
