The Tron Legacy Panel at Comic Con 2010
The Tron Legacy panel of cast and crew took centre stage at Comic Con 2010 today. The panel was made up of director Joe Kosinkski, producer Sean Bailey and the creator, Steve Lisberger for the crew, and for the cast we had Garrett Hedlund, Olivia Wilde, Michael Sheen, Bruce Boxleitner and the dude, Jeff Bridges.
Here is a brief run down of how the panel event took place.
There was a quick video intro. Kosinksi emphasized true 3D, and pokes fun at post-conversion. He also talks about the fully illuminated suits which effect lighting on screen and in the environments for the shots.
Olivia Wilde: It was amazing.
Michael Sheen: It was amazing to watch Olivia in the suit.
Jeff Bridges plays two characters, Flynn and his avatar within the movie where he looks 35 years old again. Bridges acts with himself in this movie – there’s promise to show this during the panel. He said he eagerly awaits the final effect and final version – he’ll be seeing some of this footage for the first time as well.
Hedlund talks about the light suits, repairs and coolness of the real costumes used during filming. Olivia Wilde talks about honour of playing a warrior such as Quorra, the new character she plays in Tron Legacy. Hedlund says he had to take martial arts training, parkour training and more with the amazing 87eleven stunt team.
Michael Sheen is hilarious on stage, talks about living in “false reality” now living in LA (lots of laughter) and about working with Jeff Bridges. He’s shocked at the marketing and fanfare here for Comic-Con. A couple of classic Michael Sheen style quotes have made their way onto twitter.
Michael Sheen: “It’s actually a 4D film cause Jeff Bridges brings another dimension of awesome.”
Bruce Boxleitner, the real “Tron” and star of Babylon 5 is ecstatic about returning to Tron after 27 years. He’s the biggest fan there and is no stranger to science fiction – he promises this movie will take us to a whole new level. Lisberger says that the return of Tron after decades prove to him “some things, good things take a real long time to happen.”
New footage is presented for Tron Legacy, exclusive to Comic-Con that no one has seen, and runs for 8 minutes.
Footage showing Hedlund’s introduction to the “games.” We got a good look at young Jeff Bridges who looked incredible and the clips ended with a scene of Flynn’s Avatar (young Bridges) jump out of a vehicle and form a new air vehicle.
When asked about their first exposure to Tron:
Michael Sheen: I first saw the film in 1983. [laughs] I was eleven, and I was absolutely blown away. Both futuristic but historical. It had something weird…I think it was called C…G…?
When asked about the Tron Blu-ray and Tron Legacy Blu-Ray:
Sean Bailey: for the original movie we’re certainly looking to do something special, no date has been determined, and with Legacy, we’ll have some very cool materials on it. We’ll take a hard look at 3D at that point. As forward leaning as we can.
Michael Sheen: Then Tron on ice.Jeff Bridges: There was a Tron on ice! It’s been on ice for 25 years!”
Kosinski explains that the crowd will actually be in the movie – their sound will be recorded. Technicians from Skywalker Sound will record to be used in movie if it works right.
There was also a new and much anticipated look at the brand new official Tron Legacy trailer. We shall be adding it to our video gallery shortly, but in the mean time have a look at it here.
