Western Mail article scan added to Gallery
Scans of an article that appeared in the Welsh newspaper back in February 2009.
The interview is with Meyrick and Irene Sheen, Michael’s proud parents. In the article, they talk about how pleased they are with Michael’s success and how the same success keeps him apart from his family. They also open the family photo album and several photos of Michael growing up appear in the article.
I confess that I toyed with the idea of not publishing this print, as at first glance it may appear intrusive, despite the fact that it has already been in print. However, after reading the article, it is a lovely story that shows the great love, affection and immense pride Meyrick and Irene have in Michael and their family.
It is a warm and beautiful article and I felt that it deserves to be read.

The infamous MTV show Punk’d, hosted by Ashton Kutcher, has played many a trick on celebrities with the aid of their friends and family. In this episode of the show, one of the ‘victims’ is Kate Beckinsale, and Michael Sheen was complicit in her deception.

Michael at the opening of the Chartist exhibition
On Wednesday 7th, Michael Sheen opened the Chartist exhibition at the Newport Museum and Art Gallery.
The display, at Newport Museum, tells the story of the political uprisings in and around Newport in the 19th century and includes contributions from local historians and descendants of the movement’s leaders.
Michael, who spent the first five years of his life in Newport before moving to Port Talbot, said:
“I’m absolutely delighted to be here, back in the city of my birth, and it’s an honour to be associated with an exhibition that tells the story of the first national political movement that had the support of the working classes.”
The exhibition includes images, weapons, newspaper articles, videos, maps and audio messages from descendants of the key figures and local politicians.
There are also sections on the leaders’ trials at Monmouth’s Shire Hall in 1839, how far the Chartists’ demands were achieved and the history of coal mining in the area. Many of the artifacts were already on display in other parts of the museum, but this is the first time they have been displayed together to tell the Chartists’ story as a permanent feature.
Newport council’s museums and heritage officer, Mike Lewis, said: “This is a very important story in the development of our democracy and we are hoping that, through school visits, it will encourage children to discuss the reasons and history behind the vote.”
The exhibition opens to the public today.
