Alice In Wonderland being boycotted by UK cinemas
It is being reported in the Guardian, that major cinema chains Odeon, Vue and Cineworld may boycott Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland due to a dispute with Disney over the release window.
It is standard in the UK for the DVD to be released 17 weeks following theatrical release. Disney wish to shorten this to 12 weeks, and these major chains, representing 95% of 3D cinemas, refuse to show a film that does not have a guaranteed 4 month run.
Disney are claiming that they wish to cut short the run due to the World Cup this summer as they feel that attendance will be significantly affected.
The Royal charity premiere is still going ahead on 25th February.
