Michael unsuccessful in 2010 BAFTA Film Award Nominations

As previously announced, Michael Sheen appeared on BAFTA’s Long List (15 nominations per category) that was released 8th January. Michael received a nomination for Lead Actor for his performance in The Damned United and his co-star, Timothy Spall, also received a nomination for Supporting Actor in the same film. The Damned United itself was on the list under the Adapted Screenplay category.

The second round of voting has now taken place and the Long List has been reduced to 5 nominations per category.  Sadly, Michael did not make the short list.

The Lead Actor category now appears as:

EFF BRIDGESCrazy Heart
GEORGE CLOONEYUp in the Air
COLIN FIRTHA Single Man
JEREMY RENNERThe Hurt Locker
ANDY SERKISSex & Drugs & Rock & Roll

We are all very disappointed that neither Michael Sheen, nor The Damned United made the shortlist.

Michael Sheen has been nominated for a BAFTA in the past.

  • Nominated  for a BAFTA Film award as Best Support Actor in The Queen in 2006.
  • Nominated for a BAFTA TV award as Best Actor for Fantabulosa! in 2006
  • Nominated for BAFTA TV award as Best Actor for Dirty Filthy Love in 2004

The winners will be announced and awards presented on Sunday 21 February, at the Theatre Royal in London.

Thats how I feel Mary… I am so gutted right now. Cant imagine how Michael must be feeling. Kinda regretting making all the travel arrangements to go to the BAFTAs now. I hope that he still attends though.

Sad and very dissapointed Michael didn’t get the nomination. Bad enough he didn’t get a Golden Globe nomination, now this. Makes no sense to me…his talent is brilliant.

Hopefully I’ll be able to watch him at Bafta on BBC-America. They better air it!

  5. madnad says on :

I hope you get to see it too Mari. I have my fingers crossed that he still attends – but either way I will hopefully get lots of lovely photos of all the glamorous celebrities.

This is very sad! Every time, it seems his talent is aknowledged (articles, long list, pronostics) but never actually rewarded…*sigh*

  7. Mary says on :

so TRUE Alice. They say he is a brilliant actor and has wonderful talent but it is hardly acknowledged in awards.

MadNad will keep my fingers crossed that you still get to se him I think he may still attend *fingers crossed*

i still cannot believe he has missed out. the damned united it great.it has everything , seriousness humour and quite a bit of bad language. but a total enjoyment to watch. i hope that he still attends.what are these people waiting for. he’s been nominated quite a few times in the last 5 years, it’s about time they opened their eyes to a superb talent in michael sheen.

It’s a shame that he didn’t get nominated. He was really good in the movie!! He’s never acknowledged in awards for his great roles :(
